Are honor killings just a problem of southeastern and eastern Anatolia?
Not at all. Some people even claim that honor killings are a Kurdish problem, but there are eight convicted in Siirt, seven in Trabzon and six in Kırklareli. In all the regions, the numbers are more or less the same. Ethnically or religiously, there were Turks, Alevis, Arabs, gypsies, Albanians, you name it. Actually, this problem exists everywhere in the world, but in some places it is worse. Is it a problem of being poor or uneducated? Not at all. There are many rich and poor people. There was one academic, one student of law and one public worker. It sounds to me like a cross-section of Turkey from an educational and economic point of view. Is it related to the perception of religion? There are some people who link what they did with religion. But most of them who think in this way also point out a contradiction on their own. They say that to kill someone is like killing all of humanity according to [Islam] but that, on the other hand, honor is very important for the religion. Accor
