Are Honda Shadows motorcycles good to buy?
Honda Shadow comes in 3 flavors. The first 2 are larger bikes with larger 1100cc engines, shaft drive. Pretty formidable bikes & engine, will easily do most things the “big bikes” can do. Good Honda build quality, smooth transmissions & controls. I prefer the Shadow Sabre for its front/rear Disc brakes. The smaller “Spirit 750cc” is a good beginner’s bike, with smaller 750cc engine, smaller frame. Well-suited to around-town single-rider use. But won’t fare very well with a passenger on long haul highway rides. It’s light weight, shorter wheelbase/suspension travel just makes for too choppy of a ride with 2 riders.
I won a Harley and absolutely love it. I’ve had it for 6 years now, and it still runs like a gem. My good buddy just bought a Honda Shadow Saber for much less then what I spent on my Harley, and he loves and recommends it too. Even though I love my Harley, I know I would be happy with the Shadow Saber as well. I rode his a few teams and it reall is a beauty. Some specs: -1099cc -45-degree V-twin pumps incredible power/torque So, for the money and overall value I think the Shadows are a great buy. Hope this helps!
It’s unfortunate that nobody does comprehensive reliability ratings for motorcycles like Consumer Reports does for cars, so you basically have to make a determination based on user reviews. You need to interpret their comments to figure out overall satisfaction. What I’m seeing in several forums and groups is that Honda Shadows are very popular and reliable. People love them. Take a look at some of the user reviews for the 2000 model here: http://www.epinions.com/auto-Motorcycles-Honda_HondaClassicc-Shadow_Spirit/display_~reviews And read the conclusion to this review of a 2007 model: As we wrapped up our test ride, the Spirit passed the biggest, most basic test of any design in that I found myself wishing we could put on some more miles. The Shadow 750 is a practical mount and a good fit for a beginner or casual rider looking to return to the sport. But there’s one
