Are high school grades good indicators of college grades?
If you mean “will a student who gets A’s in high school get A’s in high school?” the answer is “maybe.” College is different from high school in ways that can impact grades. For example, in college your term grade may depend on just one or two test or papers. If you are a poor test taker or poor writer, you may not have the cushion of other grades that you had in high school. Also, college instructions assume you are prepared with all the study skills, time management, organization, reading, research, and writing skills you need. If you are weak in any of those areas, you won’t get help unless you seek it out. Since I teach writing, I see many students who are blown away by the differences between high school writing and college writing. Many of my students believe that college instructors want them to write creative papers (poetry and short stories) and express their feelings.
