Are hedgehog fleas different than cat fleas?

0

Wild or domesticated hedgehogs? Domesticated hedgehogs – African Hedgehogs – do not get fleas. If another household pet gets fleas and some get on the hedgehog, they will not stay long. Hedgehogs are hard for dog and cat fleas to live on, most likely because they have quills and no hair to burrow in, plus thicker skin that is harder to bite through. Pet hedgehogs will get mites though, which rarely will be transmitted to cats and dogs… just other hedgies and some other small animals. Wild hedgehogs do get fleas, and they are different from cat and dog fleas and will, but only in rare circumstances, live on other animals like cats and dogs.
