Are Health Care Industry Members Ready To Accept Standard Definitions of IT Terms?
Fifty-six percent of health IT professionals believe that most of the health care industry is ready to accept standardized definitions of health IT terms recently released by the National Alliance for Health IT, according to a new survey by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. Thirty percent of health IT professionals said that some people and organizations in the industry are ready to accept the standard definitions, while 8% said few people and organizations are ready. Just 3% of respondents said that the health care industry is not ready to accept standard health IT definitions. Meanwhile, two-thirds of respondents said that the terms “electronic health record” and “electronic medical record” would benefit the most from having standard definitions. Five percent of respondents said that the standard definitions would not have an impact on any health IT terms. Results are based on an online June survey of 480 health IT professionals.
