Are happy songs more important than sad songs?
People like to sing sob stories and people like to hear people sing sob stories. When people try to sing positive songs it’s usually like, “We’re having fun in the sun, blah blah whatever.” That was a piss poor example, but I think you get the gist. Fun songs are goofy, they’re ridiculous. They almost sound like they’re for children, but “Hey, things are rough, but life’s good” is a good reminder. I deserved to be in there. I crashed my van drinking and driving. My friend dislocated her thumb and I got attempted murder for that. I didn’t deserve attempted murder but I can understand the sentiment. There was no point when I was in jail that I actually felt like “This isn’t just.” I coulda killed someone.
