Guinea pigs need more attention than hamsters (hamsters are crepuscular, more active at dawn and dusk, but guinea pigs are diurnal, most active during the day). One of the important things to know about guinea pigs is they must have daily vitamin C (like humans) or their health will suffer. They need to have fresh veggies daily, dry food with added vitamin C, fresh water daily and plenty of hay. They can suffer from mites, urinary tract and upper respiratory tract infections are quite common and need prompt treatment.
