Are grandmothers listened to more than younger people when it comes to protesting?
A. My sense is that as my hair became more and more grey, I was assumed to be wiser and was listened to more than younger people in terms of protesting. I think this comes from the assumption that “older” people know more. I am not sure this is always so. We need the energy of young protesters as well as older ones. Q: What do you tell your grandchildren about your Gogo work? A: I talk to my grandchildren quite a bit about my Gogo work.. Last year, my Vancouver grandson participated in our Grandmothers Walk/Rally and I am hoping he will again this year. Q: Do you describe yourself as an activist? A: In a quiet but strong way I am an activist. I think this comes from growing up in a home which promoted and cherished the rights of human beings, then later in my professional career from hearing of so much physical, emotional and sexual abuse that women suffered as children and in marital relationships.
