Are glioblastomas hereditary?
• A question has come up for a dear friend who was diagnosed with a GBM. He has been taking Dilantin (600mg qd) for many years (originally due to a partial seizure disorder pre GBM). He had an immediate excision of the tumor, and subsequent external beam radiation, Temodar, gamma knife, etc. He now suffers from moderate to severe expressive aphasia and some right-sided weakness as a result of additional surgery which cleaned-up some necrotic areas. It was mentioned to him (by a CVA patient) that switching to Tegretol from Dilantin might result in resolving (or at least decreasing) the aphasia. Any thoughts/facts to share? • Do these tumors cause illusions of light, like a dot of light traveling across the vision from left to right and vice versa? • What are the short term and long term potential side effects of gamma knife to a cerebellar meningioma (residual from surgery 7 months ago)? They can grow back even if they get it all out? • What is normal treatment for a 0.9 centimeter pine
