Are geophysical investigations expensive?
Geophysics can actually reduce the costs of site exploration by guiding the direct exploration, and thus reducing the amount of soil borings, test pits, and/or other direct exploration methods. In addition, the use of geophysics increases data density, resulting in improved project quality. Some companies who lack the knowledge of Geophysics generally use intrusive methods of direct exploration such as drilling, test pits, and cone-penetrometers. These companies take core samples in order to determine the make up of the earth at a project site. Geophysics, by contrast, determines the make up of the earth without taking intrusive samples. Direct exploration is useful for increased certainty of the existence and location of a substance. However, such procedures are frequently performed with little previous knowledge of the site. Blind direct exploration is costly. In these situations, geophysics is highly useful as a guide to define areas of interest for direct exploration. Although geop
