Generic drugs and brand name drugs are almost the exact same. The name of the drug and the price is different but everything else is the same. The original manufacturer of the drug invests a lot of time and money into researching and developing the drug. They will have the opportunity to get a patent license for the drug and be the only company legally allowed to sell the drug. The patent will expire at some point and then any manufacture can copy the drug and sell it as a generic version for a cheaper price. Generic drugs and name brand drugs are the exact same. Generic drugs use the same ingredients and have the same medical effects when used at the same dosage. A name brand drug is the same as a generic drug because when it is produced is it required to be an exact duplicate of the original drug.
