While it is true that tap-water contains too many impurities and drinking straight from the tap could be bad for your present or future health, RO is simply an unnecessary step. With micron filtration, you can remove cysts, which is primarily what GE reverse osmosis filters are recommended for. Normally, RO does not remove any chemical contaminants.
