As a former corrections officer from Arizona, no. Homosexuals are not separated from the general public in normal situations. As a corrections officer, I encountered this on only 2 occasions, and in each case the “male” inmate was in the process of being transgendered, and had the upper parts of a woman and the lower parts of a man.
