Are gas marketers in Ontario regulated?
Marketers who sell gas to small-volume residential and commercial users must obtain a licence from the Director of Licensing at the Ontario Energy Board (OEB). To qualify for a licence, an applicant must satisfy certain legislated requirements relating to financial responsibility and previous conduct. The OEB has established a Code of Conduct, with which all licensed marketers must comply. The OEB may suspend or revoke an existing licence if the marketer does not satisfy the legislated requirements, contravenes the Code of Conduct or fails to comply with a condition of the licence. The Code of Conduct and a list of all licensed marketers can be found on the OEB’s website.
