Are functional programming languages useful in education?
Functional languages are gathering momentum in education because they facilitate the expression of concepts and structures at a high level of abstraction. Many university computing science departments now make use of functional programming in their undergraduate courses; indeed, a number of departments teach a functional language as their first programming language. Further information about the use of functional programming languages in education (including links to relevant conferences and workshops) is available on the web from: http://www.cs.kun.nl/fple/.
