Are free-weights better than press-ups (push ups)?
Free weights give a better work out in general, because they also work the secondary muscles required for you to keep the weight balanced. That said, it is important that you are doing the exercise correctly in a controlled manner. Otherwise free weights won’t do you much good. Free weights gives you more flexibility as to what muscles you want to work on, depending on how you use them. Push ups are good, but it only gives a limited work out. However, if you’re new to weight training, it’s probably a good idea to stick with push ups until someone more experienced can show you the ropes. If you want to combine different exercises, it’s better to work the larger muscles groups first, i.e. chest before biceps.
