Are Foreign currencies accepted in Nepal?
All convertible currencies like the Dollar- US, Hong Kong , Canadian, Singapore , Australian, British Pound Sterling and Euro are accepted. There are several government authorized money exchange counters in Kathmandu and Pokhara where money can be exchanged. Apart from the money exchange counters, foreign currency can also be exchanged at the bank. Credit cards like American Express, Visa and Master cards are widely accepted at the various hotels, restaurants and shops in Kathmandu and other major towns.

There are several govt. authorized money exchange counters in Kathmandu and Pokhara where money can be exchanged. Apart from the money exchange counters foreign currency can also be changed at the banks. It is advisable to retain the foreign encashment receipt after changing money. For the assistance of visitors there is a foreign exchange counter at the airport where money can be changed upon arrival. Credit cards like American Express, Visa cards and Master cards are widely accepted at the various hotels, restaurants and shops in Kathmandu and other major towns. All the banks remain open for transactions from 09:30 a.m. to 02:30 p.m. daily on weekdays. The working hours for all govt. offices are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in summer and till 4 p.m. in the winter.
