Are fly strips actually cruel?

There is as yet no evidence that flies have feelings, nor any way proposed to try to find out. Once that was found out, you would still have the question of what the fly feels about being stuck to the strip – maybe it feels good, although I doubt it. There are some Hindu sects that wear facemasks to avoid harming flying creatures by breathing them in. I don’t have any particular empathy for flies and feel that the strips are an environmentally-friendly way to deal with a nuisance. Good screening is better, but more expensive. The glue traps for mice are an abomination – I know darn well that the mouse spends a long time terrified. I want a mousetrap to do a clean fast murder.
