Are Filipinos considered the Asian race?
Many people do not understand what a “Filipino” is. People often think Filipinos are Asian, but in reality we are Pacific Islanders. So why do Filipinos look so much like Asian race? Because we are also part of the Malaysian race. Malaysian people are pure Asian. Other people also say we are part Chinese. Understanding that still does not put us in the Asian category because we are not full blood. Other races Filipinos have in their culture is Spanish blood. That is why we can’t be considered “Asian”. Many Filipino-Americans’ believe we should be labeled as “Asian”. Many Filipinos label themselves as “Asian” because they believe they fit in that category. “Since we mostly associate and date Asian-American races besides Filipinos, I believe I am an “Asian”, says one student. If we are considered “Pacific Islander” why is it that in school when they ask what race are you; the Filipino-Americans’ have their own box?
