No, files are not scanned for viruses. If users do not already have anti-virus software installed, then it is possible that infected files will be backed up. However, it will not infect other files in the depository, as it cannot be executed. Of course when the file in question is restored, it will still contain the virus and needs to be identified and quarantined.
