Are fig trees deciduous?

Yes, they all drop off in Autumn, don’t worry! If you look carefully you will see new buds at the ends of the branches which will be next year’s leaves. Figs are pretty resistant to frost and if yours is in a reasonably sheltered place it should be OK through the winter. However if it’s in a pot make sure the drainage is good and stand the pot on ‘feet’ to hold the bottom off the ground, as being waterlogged in cold conditions isn’t good for it. Next Spring, feed it with Vitax fertiliser for shrubs, or a similar slow-release feed, and top up the compost with some fresh John Innes No 3. Keep the roots confined as the fig will fruit better then if it has a free run in too much compost.
