Are Ferrets illegal in California?
They’re illegal. In the laws, in the law books, ferrets are classified as wild animals and illegal in California. BUT if you buy one and “move” to California with it, generally, the law “looks the other way”. You can easily buy ferret supplies, find veterinarians, and really have no problem keeping them. Partially because the courts and law enforcement are so bogged down by “real” crimes to chase ferrets. If you’re caught with them (like if the cops are at your house for another reason and sees the ferrets) or if someone tells on you, you’ll be facing fines and the ferrets will be confiscated. Ferret lovers are trying to get the law changed. Cheers. EDIT TO ADD: Just a few comments on other people’s answers: ~There are NO ferrets in shelters in California. ~There are no ferrets on petfinder.com in California. ~There are no ferrets in pet stores in California. You can buy ferret SUPPLIES in pet stores though. ~There are no boarder patrol turning people back from the California boarder.
