Are fears and superstitions associated with mockingbirds, Boo Radley, or Tom Robinson?
podunc Teacher College – Sophomore eNotes Editor There are certainly fears and superstitions that grow up around the myth of Boo Radley. Since he is never seen, his persona is sort of a “blank slate” for the gossips of Maycomb to write on. They invent stories about how he eats squirrels and cats, and a rumor circulates that he tried to kill his father with a pair of scissors. We find out, ultimately, that Boo is gentle and innocent, just like Tom Robinson and mockingbirds. None of these creatures hurt people, but all of them are hurt by others.
