It is the responsibility of every South African to prevent veld fires. If they’re aware of a veld fire in an area, they must inform the nearest police and fire brigade and try to extinguish it. We believe the agriculture sector and local, provincial and national government can work together in organising forums. They can discuss the possibilities of veld fires in their respective regions and how to fight them. As a team, they can work together to train people in fighting fires and to prepare firebreaks.
