Are facilities and foster homes required to have plastic mattress covers on the mattresses? Or, is the cover or protector referred to in the standard a fitted sheet/linen for the bed?
The standard does not require the cover or protector to be plastic, but we are not referring to regular bed linens. This standard requires a mattress cover in addition to the fitted sheet. The intent of the requirement is to have an extra layer designed to provide some level of protection for the child from the mattress (dust mites, etc.) and provide some level of protection for the mattress from the child (bed wetting, etc.).
