Frankly, we don’t know if dryer sheets deposit an invisible film on lint filters, but this story seems to have the characteristics of an urban legend. Consumer Reports, which has tested hundreds of clothes dryers, stated that the sheets might leave a film over time, but says it’s doubtful that such a film would alone lead to a fire.
