Are Exotic Dancers Really Suing Over Thongs?
The nine exotic dancers and a makeup artist are suing Penthouse Entertainment Club for more than the cost of thongs. An initial reaction might question why the dancers wouldn’t pay for their own underwear. Most female exotic dancers are required to wear a fancy thong just as men wear tight underwear. It is a “uniform” dancers must don to perform. What Are the Strippers’ Grievances? According to the New York Post, the exotic dancers have the following grievances: • dancers are required to pay for uniforms, which are thongs; • employer did not pay the dancers a minimum wage and took a portion of their tips; • dancers were charged a house fee by the employer for dance shifts; and • dancers often received house tokens as tips and employer deducted a 20 percent premium for a cash exchange.
