Yes, they are. Among evangelicals and born-againners, there are three common reasons for rejecting the word “Protestant”: * They may reject the concept of denominationalism entirely, and consider the whole concept of “Protestantism” to be a manifestation of that. * They may believe that their church, and not the Catholic Church, has valid apostolic succession, and that therefore the word “Protestant” does not apply to them in light of their unconventional understanding of their church’s history. * They may be thinking of the moral compromise seen in several mainline Protestant denominations, and wishing to distance themselves from that.
