Are Etsy Street Teams really meta-tagging gangs?

Here is the story. I have been using etsy from the day it came out as I am very interested in the work of Jared Tarbell, one of the creators. I have seen the etsy.com site grow from a few hundred users to the huge success it is today. I am a huge supporter. But I am disturbed about a recent, hostile email my wife received from a so-called “Etsy Street Team”. This email threatened my wife to quit using a certain meta-tag on 2 of her listings. We had no idea what a ‘Etsy Street Team” was until we got this email, originating from a user on the etsy server itself, threatening her to remove the meta-tag that was part of the name of their so-called “street team” which they claimed ownership of. Rather than get in a flame war with people involved in a company that I love and have helped promote from day one, I decided to come here with the hope that someday someone from etsy will see how people are manipulating their software.
