Are esophageal cancer and throat cancer the same?
These two cancers aren’t “exactly” the same thing, but are usually linked together because throat cancer can lead to esophageal cancer if not treated immediately. They can start at the same time in some cases. They are different locations at the start. The throat cancer starts around the tongue, cheeks, gums, and throat, while the esophageal cancer usually starts down near the stomach where the esophagus connects to the stomach from the throat.
