Are epidurals effective for reducing neck and back pain?

Not really. In a study of 300 patients, after 2 to 6 weeks, most epidural blocks loose their effectiveness. There was no efficacy at 3 months, 6 months or 1 year after injection. The epidurals had no impact on day to day functioning, the need for surgery or long term pain control.
