Are endemic areas local doctors (in Arizona and California, especially) likely to take Valley Fever more seriously than out-of-state doctors?
A doctor’s location does not appear to be important. Many doctors who practice in the most heavily endemic areas have shown themselves to be dangerously incompetent when it comes to this disease. Most doctors outside the endemic areas are not considered likely to know about the disease in-depth, but some do. A few questionnaire respondents reported that doctors who had visited their hospital corrected their local doctor’s misdiagnosis and mistreatment, even though the visiting doctor was not from an endemic area to Valley Fever. Obviously a local doctor should be fully aware of local endemic diseases, but many patients’ experience suggests this is not the case.
