Are employers required to report confirmed cases to the Health Department?
No, employers are not required to notify the Health Department if an employee reports that they have been “confirmed” or “tested positive” for Novel H1N1. The Health Department receives reports from laboratories and doctor’s offices to monitor influenza in Allegheny County. However, if a workplace is seeing a large increase in their absentee rates or are sending large numbers of employees home from ill, please call the Health Department to let them know.
