Are DVDs categorized by region and will all regions play back on my Onkyo DVD player?
A. DVDs are categorized into 8 regions dependent upon geographic location with the last two regions reserved for special applications. Onkyo DVD players sold in the United States can only play back region 1 DVDs or all region DVDs that are not region specific. The following list is a breakdown by region. Region 1 United States, Canada and the U.S. Territories Region 2 Japan, Europe, South Africa and the Middle East including Egypt Region 3 Southeast Asia and East Asia including Hong Kong Region 4 Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America and the Caribbean Region 5 Easter Europe including the former Soviet Union, Africa, India, North Korea and Mongolia.
