Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. As a non-profit organization, all funds that we raise go directly to the ABC Clinic’s TNR program to help cover costs for spay/neuter of feral cats. We try to help people with the spay/neuter costs, but as a new program we’re trying to stretch the few donation dollars we have. While the caregiver looks to us for help trapping, we look to the caregiver for help raising funds, either out of their own pocket or getting donations from their friends and family. One caregiver had her friends and family make donations on her birthday and raised a lot of money for her own colony.
All donations are tax-exempt to the maximum extent allowed by law. Jackson Memorial Foundation will acknowledge gifts upon receipt and provide proper documentation for IRS purposes. The foundation is an approved IRS 501 (c) 3 charity with Federal Tax ID # 65-00077727. The foundation is also registered with the State of Florida Certificate #23-08-390179-56C.
This can depend on how you raised the money but generally the entire amount of the donation over $2 is tax deductible to the donor. For an amount to be a donation it is assumed at all times that the donor is not the same person as the participant, or an associate of either. The conditions for a donation are that the donation must be made voluntarily and does not provide benefits to the donor. If you are paying the entire trip cost and donation yourself, then only the $1500 donation to the charity, is tax deductible.
