Are distillers expensive to operate?
These distillers use about 3 KWH of electricity for each gallon of water that is distilled. You can find your personal cost per gallon by multiplying 3 times the KWH rate in your area. You’ll probably find that it is a fraction of the cost of buying water at the store or having it delivered. Note: Where I live (Upstate, New York), my cost for electricity is $.129612/kwh (NYSEG). That means that each gallon of distilled water costs me just about $.39/gallon. Most grocery stores in the area sell distilled water at around $1.00/gal. When I was buying distilled water, I’d go to Walmart, where it was sold at $.66/gallon (the best price I could find). I would easily use 5 gallons/week for personal use. The countertop distiller we handle costs $129.00, so the payback point on the distiller was at 331 gallons of the cleanest water I could have, divided by 5 gallons/week… The unit paid for itself in just over 16 months. However, considering that I’m also saving $.27/gallon now, times 331 gall
