Are design testing documents required to be included in the LSN?
A. Yes. During the early stages of repository construction, DOE is required by 10 CFR 63.133 to establish a program for testing the design of engineered systems and components including drip shields, borehole and shaft seals, and backfill. DOE must also test the thermal interaction of waste packages, backfill, drip shields, rock and water. The scope of information NRC will review on design testing of engineered systems and components other than waste packages is described in Section 2.4 of the Yucca Mountain Review Plan.
