Are Cunard the Only True Ocean Liners Left?
Cruising as a holiday has become increasingly popular over the last five years and this trend seems set to continue. Cruise lines are designing and launching more innovative and larger ships on an almost annual basis, with more exotic destinations and unbelievable onboard facilities. In fact cruising now bears little resemblance to the sophisticated and civilised option from yesteryear. Only one cruise line, Cunard, seem to continue to remain true to the well-loved nautical traditions that they are famous for delivering and their fleet can now be viewed as the only true modern era ocean liners at sea. The words ‘ocean liner’ themselves conjure up images of the past; well heeled and well dressed passengers standing on the deck in Southampton waving off friends and family quayside. But what are the differences between an ocean liner and a cruise ship?
