Are credit cards widely accepted in India?
Credit cards are increasingly accepted by hotels, restaurants, larger shops and airlines. It is recommended, however, to have a well-known credit card, such as Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. ATMs (Automatic Teller Machines) also can issue cash against a variety of cards and are widely found throughout the country. Prior to leaving for India It is a good idea to notify your credit card provider of your intention to travel to India. Many unwary travellers have ended up stranded and unable to use their credit cards because their credit card company, thinking that the card was stolen and being used in another country, cancelled their privileges.
