Are Conns syndrome and Cushings syndrome diseases initiated by radiation?
Keith Dinger, CHP, says on The Health Physics Society web page… My research of the medical literature tells me that although Conn’s syndrome and Cushing’s syndrome are different diseases they are both caused by the excess production of certain hormones by the adrenal gland, one of the glands that makes up the endocrine system. Therefore, the most expert answer to the cause of these diseases would be by an endocrinologist, which I am not and which should be taken into consideration as you read my response. However, from my knowledge of radiation health effects and my reading about the nature of Conn’s syndrome and Cushing’s syndrome, I believe it is safe to say there is no known relation between radiation and these diseases, and if there were a relationship it would only occur at high doses of radiation.
