Are colorimetric tubes recommended for compliance sampling?
While detector tubes are an efficient tool for screening purposes or field surveys, most do not offer the specificity required to ensure measurement of exposures to a single chemical. In addition, most detector tubes do not meet the accuracy and precision criteria for sampling and analytical methods, as set forth by OSHA, of +/- 25% of the true value, at a 95% confidence level, at the PEL.
