Are college freshmen significantly more mature than high school seniors?

Maybe not. High school is the new college. And Americans treat youth like children until they turn 21 or so, so you can expect a lot of immaturity.

If so, they are only slightly more mature. Maturity doesn’t happen overnight, or even over years sometimes. I’d argue that some high school students regress because at public colleges they won’t get kicked out no matter how low their grades are, so they goof off.

They are until the go through the front door of the college or university…then they soon find out they are once again on the bottom rung of the ladder!
