Are College Cheerleader Uniforms Too Scandalous?
Are they necessary? It may be argued that the uniforms are for function and practicality. With more fabric and coverage, the athletes may not be able to perform the lifts, toe touches, and back flips that are necessary. If this is the case, I keep wondering why many uniforms do not have stomach coverage. Others may say the uniforms are not scandalous, but merely sexy instead. Being sexy doesn’t impeach upon one’s personal character. From a business standpoint, sex sells. The same way perfume and clothing companies use sexy women for advertisements, colleges also do the same. It could be argued that it brings in the money. My question is: do the cheerleaders really bring the crowds? A valid argument may compare the uniforms of cheerleaders with that of college volleyball players. If the volleyball girls are allowed to wear spandex, and it is not seen as scandalous, why are the short skirts and tight tops of cheerleading uniforms considered so?
