The prime reason for cold sore being contagious is due to its causative agent namely herpes simplex type 1 virus. This herpes virus is so contagious that it can even spread by a light peck or kiss. So it is recommended to stay away from your kids as they are more sensitive to herpes virus. 2. Don´t prick cold sore. If you do, it will spread all through out your face. 3. Don´t dare to touch cold sore with your hands. If you have touched it accidentally, then make sure that you wash the hands with soap and water
