Are class attendance policies necessary for student efficiency?
Have you ever been hit by that dreaded stomach virus or had your car break down before an important lecture in class? Do you find it hard to get to class on time some days, if at all? If so, join the club! In one form or another, it seems inevitable to face adversity as soon as priorities are aligned. In my short year and a half of college, I have already come close to the threats of grades being penalized due to absences. I refuse to believe my professors don’t care about me as an individual, so why are the attendance policies geared toward a limit that will surpassed? The ability of a student should not be weighed in the numerical value of classes attended; instead, the focus should lie in the discipline and effort placed throughout the semester. Admittedly, while many absences stem from obligations outside the parameters of campus, others do not. Our professors are aware of this fact and find it offensive, to say the least, that we choose to skip class on a whim. With well prepared
