Are church sponsored social functions such as dinners acceptable? How would this compare with pot luck meals or baby showers at members homes?
Quire clearly, Paul warns us about eating social meals in the context of the local church. Do we not have homes in which to eat and drink socially? 1 Corinthians 11:20-22 teaches these lessons. We do have the command to be hospitable with each other (Romans 12:13), but we have homes in which to do this. The work of the church is spreading the Gospel, and church sponsored social activities do not accomplish this.
