Are Chinese manufactured products losing appeal?
The Chinese melamine milk contamination crisis in 2008 follows the recall of Chinese manufactured toys in 2007 when Mattel recalled more than 18 million of its own and subsidiary’s Fisher Price’s toys globally – including such famous brands as Polly Pocket, Barbie and Batman – due to harmful levels of lead used in the manufacture of those products. In November 2007, Melbourne based company Moose Enterprises followed suit, recalling its line of “Bindeez” children’s toys due to fears of toxicity of the Bindeez beads and the potential for harm to small children caused by the consumption of the beads by small children.
