Are Chinese imports competing with domestic production?
AG: Competition from imports from other low cost countries used to be very strong. However, quality was an issue with them and consumers now prefer the assurance of quality that comes from a known, leading brand. RR: Are you also getting into a phase where external consultants have a dominant role in larger institutions by way of influencing corporate buying decisions (by deciding what brand to buy and what CFL to go for) AG: This is more connected with professional segments where there are specifiers. We work very closely with the electrical consultants, architects and interior designers. RR: Was it the same in the times of glass bulbs? AG: It is more prevalent now; the shifts are more visible. Philips is a lighting solution provider. So we have been working very closely with specifiers for a long time. We take their inputs and involve them in our product creation process.
