Are Children of People with PTSD at Greater Risk to also Develop PTSD? Monday October 1, 2007A recent study published in the Archives of General Psychiatry found that the adult children of Holocaust survivors with PTSD may be at greater risk for the development of PTSD following a traumatic event as compared to children of Holocaust survivors without PTSD. In particular, this study found that children of Holocaust survivors with PTSD, as compared to children of those without PTSD, had lower cortisol levels (a hormone released in response to stress), an identified vulnerability for developing PTSD following traumatic exposure. You can learn more about this study, as well as the relationship between cortisol and PTSD, here. Comments (0)Se
