Are Children Exposed to Tobacco Promotion Before the Initiation of Tobacco Use?
Children are almost universally exposed to tobacco promotion before age 11, when tobacco use still is rare.18 Exposure in young children is difficult to measure directly; however, it can be inferred from their awareness of tobacco brands and logos. Table 1 lists 16 studies that demonstrated that children are exposed to tobacco promotion before using tobacco.
